About

how it started—

what started as a chill creative side quest… very quickly turned into something I knew would be more than just a hobby.

Hi hello! I’m Sian Richardson… Designer/Maker/Creative.

In late 2024 I took a couple of local jewellery workshops, something I’d never done before, and I found my way into the world of beading… And tbh I was instantly hooked. Literally the day after the workshop I was scheming where I was going to buy beads and what shit I would need to learn to make a few pieces for myself.

I went HAM at Michaels the week after that, and I knew right off the bat that this was probably going to evolve into something more than just me making shit for myself or for friends/family.

But, I knew I had a lot to learn—so I gave myself 6 months to just mess around and have fun with it, try out a few different techniques, try a bunch of materials, and see what worked & what didn’t.

I’m an entrepreneur at heart, I’ve been a Graphic Designer for 16+ years running my own business, from working with clients 1-1 on Branding & Website Design, to creating my own design courses and templates, so it took a lot of discipline to not immediately turn the jewellery into a ‘sellable’ thing, lol. But I’m SO GLAD I did that, because I needed that 6 months to feel into it and find my style, too.

At first I just did it under my own name (Sian Richardson), but since January 2026 I made the shift to Marine Parade—which I’ll share more about below.

what’s the name all about?

the story behind the name—marine parade

These days I live in British Columbia, Canada, but I’m a proud New Zealander and I feel very lucky to be able to call these two places home.

Marine Parade is the name of the main beach at my home in New Zealand, Mount Maunganui. It’s where I’ve spent almost every summer of my life, and even now, living in Canada, it’s still a place I go back to every Summer/Xmas to hang out and spend time with my fam.

When I was brainstorming names for this brand, Marine Parade was one of the first ideas that came to mind and I knew it was meant to be.

Beyond being the name of my home beach, it captures the entire feeling behind this brand: ocean air, slow days, souvenirs, and the kind of pieces you pick up along the way and keep for years.

What matters to me —

Sunset over mountains reflected on a body of water.
A lakeside scene with clear water, a rocky shoreline, and dense green trees. Partially visible house on the hillside among trees and a rocky cliff.
Two beaded necklaces, one white and one green, lying on a gray stone surface outdoors.
A person wearing multiple rings and bracelets holding up their hand near a rocky stream.

guiding brand principles

Marine Parade started as a passion project and slowly grew into something bigger — something I knew I had to share. As it evolved, it became important that this brand actually stand for something, so these principles guide everything I make here.

make shit the old-school, analog way.

let it evolve at its own pace, there’s no rush.
